Shopping All Over

Sunday, 26 January 2014

I feel like I'm becoming more Canadian by the day - it's pretty normal for me to now strike up a conversation with a stranger on the street. And I've finally done the other Canadian rite of passage, I went to Florida for a winter holiday. I even relaxed for a few days but I was travelling with an accommodating bunch so we stopped by an antique mall where I picked up a few things. My most exciting things from there? A few clothes for myself. You know you're getting old when you find the clothes you like at an antiques store! Paisley all the way for me.

So here's what I picked up in Orlando. I couldn't leave behind this fabulous Bitossi Rimini Blu jar, especially since it's bigger than the other ones I've seen. It's already up in the shop.

My father-in-law found these Danish coasters, I liked the shoe design. Listed here

And an acrylic Solar Rings mobile.

Since we're on the topic of shopping, I also picked up a bottle of Creme de violette, sadly not available in Ontario. Yes, it's not exactly a vintage item but it makes packing vintage easier. Pictured here in an Aviation which I enjoyed last night.

And here are today's Toronto pickings. A Le Creuset Enzo Mari La Mama pot, luckily I seem to attract the white ones, which I'm totally fine with, it's the coolest colour for this line. A tiny blue dala horse and an email plate, probably by Ib Geertsen. Ib Geertsen (1919-2009) was a Danish artist, one of the originators of the Konkret movement. He used bold primary colours, strong shapes and contrast. Take a look at some of his mobiles.

  1. The enamel plate is really cool, I hadn't heard of Geertsen before - will have to keep an eye out for those!

    1. Shopping while travelling is fun until it's time to go home. Not keeping anything, we spent the weekend reorganizing our collections, I'm done collecting :D

  3. I love that enamel plate even more in red, would have a very hard time letting it go. Great finds all around.

    1. Thanks! It's really nice but it deserves a good spot to be displayed :)

  4. lol - the text about the alcohol to the packing made me laugh:) I stick to red wine and splitting one night to the bubble wrapping, the other to the rest of the packing - makes it a little less boring (I also should stop buying dinnerware and go for more wall hangings and table cloths..)

    1. Thanks, Mali! I try to wrap up my packages as soon as possible, just to gain that extra space. Trying to buy less dinnerware too, unsuccessfully.
